In this contract, a deposit of 10% of the purchase price is agreed, as well as a cancellation period of 10 days. No matter how the contract is concluded, whether privately, at a notary's office or through a lawyer, it is binding. In most cases, this binding contract also contains the so-called clause de débit. This clause contains the provisions on how much compensation is due if one party wants to withdraw from the preliminary contract. After the 10-day withdrawal period has expired, the actual notarisation appointment is made at a notary's office. This is where the actual contract of sale for real estate in France is signed.
