... of the blue sea in just 15 minutes by car (8 km). ➤ HISTORY OF THE CASTLE The glorious building was built in 1791 and is the epitome of an outstanding architectural example of 18th century Pelion. Its first owner was a wealthy Greek merchant from Alexandria, Egypt, who became commander of Vyzitsa and contributed to the development of the region, which attracted bandits and pirates during the Ottoman rule. Thus, in the glorious castle, you can discover architectural defense details, turrets and an underground passage that connects the two main parts of the building complex. The last owners transformed it into a romantic, luxurious château - residence, with a refined and rich garden, high-quality rooms with Italian furniture, carpets, four-poster beds and artistically painted ceilings and frescoes. Thus, this magnificent building can be used as a comfortable and exquisite home, as it was originally used, or easily converted into a museum, hotel, retreat (or other). ➤ RESTORATION AND AWARDS The restoration of the castle (1991) followed all high and advisable architectural standards and was awarded, among others, as a Remarkable Example of Architecture (Greek Ministry of Culture: Architecture Committee, 1988), as a Pilot Project Hotel - Destination of Winter Tourism (Greek National Organization for Tourism, 1989), as a Building of European Architectural Heritage (European Community, Brussels) and as a Choice for the Protection of the Interest of a Traditional Building (Technical Chamber of Greece). In addition, its antiques and other historical objects have been included in the local folklore collection of Vyzitsa (with the authorization of the Court of First Instance of Volos, Greece), which is housed inside the castle. The castle was also included in the list of -50 Unique Hotels with Character- (USA TODAY Newspaper), and the Italian DOVE and L' EUROPEO, to name a few. ➤ ARCHITECTURE Built in 1791, restored in 1991 with a fortress structure and strong building lines. It is characterized by castronas, turrets (to the west), crypt (secret underground passage), defensive room with loops and many original medieval features, such as crucibles for boiled oil-water, hooks, bars, loopholes and a small turret as an escape exit. ➤ ROOMS AND DECORATION This special building, with a magnificent view of the Pagasitic Gulf, but also of the surroundings of Vyzitsa, consists of 11 luxurious rooms with painted ceilings, windows with beautiful views and stained glass windows. Each room (single, double, triple, double suite) has its own bathroom and retains its own style, with iron beds with canopy or lace headboard, Italian furniture, branded carpets, lamps, curtains, Egyptian fabrics, mirrors.
