... two Badolatos, one is the ancient Badolato , located on a hill about 240 meters above sea level and the other is Badolato Marina, located down directly on the sea. Badolato Superiore has preserved all the charm of authentic southern Italy to this day. The town is made up of narrow winding alleys that wind around the old houses uphill and downhill. The city was founded in the 11th century. It was built in such a way that it could not be seen from the sea. In the Middle Ages the coasts of Calabria were attacked by Saracens and Turks from the East, so people sought refuge in the mountains. The town walls and the castle reveal the former defensive function. For a long time Badolato Superiore was quite deserted, it had about five hundred inhabitants, mostly elderly people. One can say it was a ghost town. The reasons for the depopulation are to be found in the waves of migration that took the inhabitants of Badolato first to America and then to the rich countries of Europe and northern Italy. Fortunately, it was revived in 1997 with the help of a solidarity and hospitality project for Kurdish refugees. Moreover, many houses have been bought and restored as vacation homes by famous artists, writers , Italians from northern Italy, descendants of emigrants and many foreigners from northern Europe. Art and culture lovers will enjoy Badolato because the town is framed by twelve beautiful old churches. At the end of August, Badolato very often hosts the Festival of the Music of the South. Here you can get to know the true, passionate love of life of the south, manifested in music! Wim Wender filmed in Badolato the documentary -Il Volo- about immigration . Isabella Montwright, the Canadian romance writer, has a house here. Another famous resident is the Italian rock star Piero Pelu. Badolato Marina, on the other hand, was created in the 50s of the last century. The beaches are 10 minutes drive from the historic center. The apartment for sale is located in a stone house, on the second floor. It is a tzpic apartment of the historical center, with the advantage that it enjoys a very convenient position, has a separate entrance and convenient entry through an antique gate. There is also a parking possibility just under the house.Besides, all rooms are distributed on one level. There is kitchen, living room, one big and one small bedroom, bathroom with shower, two balconies. From all windows and balconies you have a panoramic view of the green hills and the sea.
