It´s the result of over 8 years of hard work of a community of ecological farmers and builders. Our main focus has been to create a place in nature where a few families may live off the land. To achieve this we have cultivated a great variety of plants, trees, palms and vines that provide sustenance and medicine for a healthy and alternative lifestyle. Situated in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon, the farm stands out for it´s abundance and tranquility, and is ideal for continuing on as a Self-Sustainable Community Living Project, as a vacation farm or for Ecological Tourism. There is access for vehicles to the farm, to get there you must travel 30 km from the City of Coca on the Main Coca-Dayuma road, followed by 2 km on an unpaved secondary road. The farm is 10 hectares in size, with the possibility of negotiating other adjacent plots of land. At 300 metres above sea level, the climate is warm and tropical usually with a refreshing breeze thanks to its height, which makes it cooler than lower Amazonian regions. Fly and and mosquito levels are very low. The the dry season is July to January, the rest of the year is rainy on and off. The farm has a one-story, 4 bedroom timber house, built on raised foundations with guayacan timber and other jungle hard-woods of excellent quality and durability. The kitchen is detached, 3 metres from the house, equipped with a 3-ring cast iron wood stove for cooking. There is a dry compost toilet. The farm has sustained us economically through ecological tourism the sale of its produce and natural medicines in the local market. On the farm and in the forests that surround it, you can watch different amazonian species of flora and fauna, such as monkeys of different species, otters, turtles, armadillos, agoutis, pacas, tapirs, porcupines, snakes such as the boa constricter and others, a myriad of jungle trees, vines and fungi, as well as hear the song of the birds of the jungle such as toucans, macaws, parrots, yellow-breasted flatbills, eagles, buzzards, and many more. The soil of this Farm is dark, workable and very productive and rich in humus. We manage the cultivated areas of our farm with planting techniques that create a balance between different food bearing trees and plant species that can be cultivated in different zones according to their characteristics, such as corn, cassava, giant taro or alocasia, plantain, banana, taros, etc. We have built an outbuilding for storing harvests of corn, rice and others. This Farm is ideal for breeding and raising chickens and other poultry and also for guinea pigs, and other animals. For fish, the farm has 2 ponds suitable for raising species such as cachama, bocachico, streaked prochilod, red tilapia and silver tilapia amongst others. We have left over half of the farm as Amazonian forest, to conserve its wealth of flora and fauna. A stream runs through the middle of the land which is inhabited by different kinds of native fish species such as fresh water sardines, jachos, botellos, kuruntas, amongst others. The water that supplies the house is collected and piped from a natural spring 50 metres up the hill.
