The strict connection of the windows to the facades defines the primary relationship of the glazing to solid surfaces - an essential compositional device to achieve an integrated clarity of architectural form and detail. The northern section of the residence is placed adjacent to the fluid element that surrounds the front façade. Thus, the use of glazed areas on three sides creates a visual relationship between the fluid element, the living/dining area and the outdoor spaces. The houses are flexible and adaptable to allow different levels of privacy for the family, individual family members, servants, guests and friends. Generous daylighting of each room is considered essential, as is varying the daylighting of all rooms throughout the year and at all hours of the day. Tunable skylights have been strategically positioned above the staircases. The design aims to achieve a distinctive resonance between site, form, space, material, landscape and light, and to address pressing environmental responsibilities.
