needs renovation, In its immediate proximity is, among other points of interest, a beautiful town of Kutna Hora, a UNESCO site with a gothic cathedral and a well preserved historic core. The ossuary in Sedlec is world renowned. Caslav, another well preserved historical town is located only 13 km north-east. There is a small airport some 3 km away, which provides air taxi connection.

History

The castle was first mentioned in the 14.th century. It was at first a gothic stronghold, which has been rebuilt in the renaissance period from family of Kolovrat (16-17.cen.), and later in baroque into a four wind structure surrounding a courtyard from family of Obytecky (1650-60). The entire complex was once surrounded by a mote. The last major reconstruction, by a well known Italian artist Carlo Brettani has embellished the building with a fine facades and amazing stucco work in some of its halls. Unfortunately, after the castle became the property of the town in the 18.zth century, a large amount of this work was destroyed or lost. However, there is greatly preserved stucco above a false ceiling in one of the large rooms. The entire complex is a witness of the passage of time and architectural styles. From gothic arches to renaissance vaulted ceilings and baroque figurative stucco work, it is truly an architectural gem.
