| The castle is in the middle of a small municipality (with 770 inhabitants) in Moravia. The location is very beautiful and quiet.
The whole complex has a rich and multicolored history. This big castle was altered from the foundations of the Cistercian monastery in 1267 up until the 19th century. The ruler, Premysl II, gave the monastery to his wife, Kunhuta, and with in time the monastery increased in importance and wealth. It was destroyed by Hussiten in 1424 and was rebuilt later. The monastery was renovated in 1782 and the whole property was sold. Finally Josef von Unwerth bought the monastery and altered it to be a castle. In 1864, the castle was sold to the countess Klotilda Clam Gallas von Dietrichstein and she connected the castle with her manor house in Polna. At the beginning of communist era the castle fell in the hands of the municipality. It was altered in the 80's into a school and has been used for that purpose ever since. |
