In between are buildings from the 30s to the 60s. One of the most beautiful areas of Weissensee is the Gemeindeforum am Kreuzpfuhl (Pistorius-/Tassostraße and Woelckpromenade; in 1908-13) with the subsequent Dutch quarter (Woelckpromenade, Amalienstrasse; in 1925-28). Administration buildings, libraries and school as well as 4-story apartment houses belong to the stylish brick ensemble. An example of the newer constructions in this area is the living park " Steinberg " with 560 housing units plus a shopping street in the Prenzlauer promenade. Today, the service center and trade center of Weissensee (DGZ) with about 80.000 m ² office and commercial spaces in Gustav-Adolf-Strasse is well used, after some difficult years. The Prenzlauer promenade was recently revitalized and was fitted out with bike tracks, new trees, lanterns and traffic lights. |
