| The well-known toy-making city of Sonneberg, with its 23.520 inhabitants, is on the southern slope of the Thuringian forest in the green heart of Germany.
It lies on approximately 45 square kilometers of land on the border of Thuringia. It is surrounded by the neighboring Bavarian cities and a view of the mountains of the Thuringian forest. From the mountains surrounding Sonneberg, there is a view of the high-Frankish countryside. Sonneberg is on the federal highway B 89 from Kronach to Meiningen. A bypass road for the B 89 is currently under construction. A connection to the A73 and the city of Neustadt near Coburg is also under construction.
The pedestrian precinct in Sonneberg has developed a lot in the course last few years. The new offerings in the city include a new water park on the Hans-Arthur-Schoenau-Platz, a reshaped city park, the modern arts center that opened in 2002, and many shops and boutiques, cafés, etc.
