The fishing village from once is today one of the most famous bathing resorts Rügens and is situated with the south border of the Selliner sea(lake) directly on the Baltic Sea.
The place-name is a frequently appearing wendischer hall name, to the comparison: Baba moorland, circle of Lauenburg.
One reaches the Baltic Sea bath Baabe by the monk property gate. The big wooden gate was established in 2002 and was marked not only the entrance in the Baltic Sea bath but at the same moment in the region monk's property.
Today Baabe counts approximately 800 inhabitants. Just(exactly) in 1896 the first bather came after Baabe. 1252 the Baaber heath is called as " mirica que adicet " (to the monk's property, or Reddevitz). It is 1574 Dominalbesitz, 1618 " Thor Baben " calls the municipality.
Since the end of the 19th century the municipality develops itself into the bathing resort.
In the 20s a wide avenue was put on to the beach. On a neck of land situated the hilly Boddenlandschaft, on the other hand the kilometer-long, fine-sandy Baltic Sea beach greets on the one hand. The beach air is particularly pure here - like on completely monk's property - and has a high salt content and iodine salary, is also ideally to the cure.
Straight through the Baltic Sea bath wheezes the Rügensche small lane, the " furious Roland ", delightful Fischerkaten, hotels and guesthouses in the "baths architecture" represented on the whole island are to be thought here. Auch a campsite is here - directly on the beach. Particularly worth seeing in Baabe is also the small white church. However, from the street a little bit zurückgerückt the church finished in 1930 for regular services, exhibitions also becomes cultural events used.
In the Baaber bulwark it does not go on apparently any more - since one discovers the ferryman who brings the pedestrians and cyclists on the opposite bank the Baaber with muscle power Known - in the rowing boat it is to Moritzdorf.
